‘the Black Balloon, ’ Is Principally About Acceptance
AppId is over the quota
Elissa Down’s film, ‘The Black Balloon,’ is set in a rural Queensland city, NSW, in the early 1990s. It is the story of the Mollison family, who are struggling with the stresses of raising an Autistic child. The film deals with issues such as the difficulties of moving house, changing schools, growing up and change within the family. Underlying all of these issues in the need for acceptance: acceptance into a community, a new school and within the family itself.
The Mollison family finds it hard to cope with raising an autistic child. Charlie has autism and ADHD, this makes it hard for people to live with him. These problems make it hard for him to communicate to others and for them to communicate to him. Charlie gets set off by small things and doesn’t know how to control his anger. When Thomas gets angry and breaks the Nintendo Charlie doesn’t know how to react and instead of getting his mother or father to tell him off he attacks Thomas, he bites, spits and throws. Another example of this is when Russel doesn’t want to perform on stage, Charlie spits on his face because he is angry with him. The parents and teacher try to calm them down and get them to cooperate, but Charlie just spits again. These are some of the reasons that Charlie isn’t accepted, because he is different, and this is why the film refers to acceptance often.
In ‘The Black Balloon’ acceptance is a key issue that it is focused around. For the characters in the film this means becoming part of the group or community. Acceptance is the most dominant part of the film, because everyone in the movie either accept people, they need to learn how to accept individuals, or they just treat others as if they are outsiders. The main theme is acceptance but most people in the film don’t include others, so those ‘others’ do struggle to feel like they belong. The people who are rejected from society are Thomas, his family and Charlie. Thomas’s Family aren’t accepted by the community around where they...

Art History French Revolution Analysis
-Napoleon I on his Imperial Throne (A) (Ingres) AND Napoleon Bonaparte as First Consul (B) (Ingres)
Q) Discuss the differences between style and subject matter
A very distinct difference between A and B, is that A shows that Napoleon in a different light, as a power hungry and power crazed man and the phrase “..absolute power corrupts absolutely..” applies very perfectly in this painting. His paintings have evolved from the purpose of propaganda for the revolution and promoting his image as a hard-working and patriotic man to promoting his power, wealth and less than subtle military process in this painting, and it also shows a rather discrete relation to the paintings that the Bourbon Kings may have commissioned to have been painted for them.
Painting B was painted in 1804, before Napoleon became corrupted with the power and wealth that comes with his position and interprets his character as a hard-working man, with equality to others. Painting A was created in 1806 two years after painting B, and it confirms the results of his corruption and changed character and perspective.
B shows Napoleon with the attributes previously stated, a hard-working and patriotic man. This painting shows that he is hard working by painting him in his study, thus perhaps suggesting that he had a decent and educational upbringing. Another aspect in this painting that shows that he is hard-working is that his right hand is on a stack of papers on the Napoleonic Code that he perhaps just finished writing, showing that he is different from the Bourbon Kings, who could not and would not do any administrations.
B shows that Napoleon is patriotic because of many reasons. One, being that his clothing colour is one of the patriotic colours of France (red, white and blue are the patriotic colours of France). Two, being that in the background there is a window overlooking Paris, the rebuilt Notre Dame in particular... This is Preview only. 1. What fundamental problem do BASIX ‘s customers face? How exposed are they to weather risk and how do they cope with risk?
BASIX has a huge rural agrarian client base. A major source of income of the clients came from agriculture. Agriculture, as an activity, greatly depends on the monsoons since alternative means of irrigation are not well developed in India. This makes their income highly vulnerable to weather conditions. The monsoons have been poor in the previous three years.
Most of the clients have limited wealth. They borrow to purchase various inputs for farming or basic needs such as food, clothing etc. A large part of the income of farmers from the harvest was spent in paying off these debts.
Not all farmers were eligible to receive finance from government agencies, and only those who were, received crop insurance policies. However, majority of BASIX’s clients remained ineligible to borrow and hence did not hold a policy.
Not all clients who had policies received insurance claims in case of losses, and those who were entitled to receive any compensation, did so after a long wait, even upto 2 years.
In order to cope with weather risks, given the aforementioned problems, farmers amassed wealth in the form of assets such as gold, livestock etc. that could be sold when the weather went against their crops and they did not realize enough income.
2. What is special about a rainfall shock and how well did BASIX’s earlier efforts to offer insurance fare? Why?
India, being an...
