Aids research paper

The search for a cure
The worldwide phenomenon that has affected the lives of millions of people is called AIDS. AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and it is a condition in which a person's immune system is too weak to fight off diseases and infections (AIDS. 1). AIDS was first discovered in the year 1981, and since then more than 25 million lives have been taken (AIDS. 2). Even if the amount is a significant number of deaths, has the quest to cure the AIDS EPIDEMIC become accessible through the years.

I. Prevention of AIDS
There are several possible ways for a person to be diagnosed with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. One of these ways is through perinatal or vertical transmission (1 vendors). This transfer relates to the mother passing down the infection through childbirth, breastfeeding, or simply during pregnancy (2 providers). For pregnant women who are HIV-positive, it is important that they receive antiretroviral drug therapy, which helps to reduce the transmission of AIDS to their baby (1 vendors). In recent studies, after pregnant women took the initiative and took part in the therapy, reduced the proportion of overall perinatal transmission to only 2% (1 vendors).
Another possibility to get infected is through unprotected sex. This year the condoms have been available to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases, one of these

Because it is expected that not everyone can or will be using protection during intercourse, microbicides were developed to reduce the transmission of sexual diseases (AIDS research ... 2). Microbicides could be applied to those areas that can become infected during intercourse, and they have the ability to eliminate HIV on contact, and to protect cells that may be more vulnerable than others (AIDS research ... 2).

CheckPoint week 6: Deviant behavior

SOC/120
June 7,2012

Deviance is defined as behaviour that is identified as violating the expected rules and norms in a society.   Tolerance to most psychologists is not a pathological state of mind, but an adaptation to social nature that human beings live.   Many people who engage in deviant behaviour have deep-seated conflicts inside themselves, and with authority figures (Andersen & Taylor, 2002).
Standards is meaningless unless there is variance (Andersen & Taylor, 2002).Stratification also plays a role in deviant behaviour because usually the rich and powerful control and have a say in what's different and what's not.
Social norms are created (Andersen & Taylor, 2002). In some social circles deemed to smoke cigarettes and drink coffee deviant.   What is abnormal in a group may be the norm in another, judged too not all behaviors. in the same way by all groups.
There are different types of deviance, formal and informal.   Formal derogation is behaviour that violates the law, for example, prostitution, drug trafficking and other crimes.   Informal deviance is behavior that did not break any rules or laws, necessarily, but it is not normal.   As deemed by those who uphold society 's. Standards.   State law permits prostitution in rural Nevada, although it is prohibited in the rest of the United States (Marcionis, 2011).   Driving while texting is illegal in 34 States, it is legal everywhere else (Marcionis,) 2011.   Many behaviors that are anomalous in a circumstance perhaps normal in another.
As with any professional career, choose some people to have a different career.   They enjoy the reactions to certain behaviors.   Sociologically, deviants, choose other deviants to train and shape into roles, and they are encouraged to engage in deviant acts.
Being caught and labeled as a deviant may intensify rather than deter its commitment for deviant behaviour.(Andersen & Taylor, 2002).   An example ...

MANAGING TIME

SHEENA MCCALL

COLL 100

AMERICAN MILITARY UNIVERSITY
ALANA SCHNEIDER

As an adult learner one must balance life, responsibilities, and one’s education with time management, organization, and prioritizing.   Effective time management is using time wisely, setting up a schedule, and setting goals.   The Western Journal of Nursing Research Editorial Board recommends strategies to enhance time management, to include setting goals, prioritizing, and planning. (Topp, Smith, Cohen, Fahrenwald, Zerwic, Benefield, Anderson, Conn, p. 22).   Make every minute count when using time wisely.   Examples are: When sitting waiting on an appointment that time could be spent studying for an upcoming test, or while sitting on a bus that time could be consumed by possibly reading the next lesson for a class, or going over flash cards.   Start off easy by making a schedule of what agendas or events are taking place that day.   As each event or agenda is finished mark them off.   Lastly, stay focused on what’s at the finish line and set goals.   Nevertheless, setting goals, prioritizing, and organization are keys to effective time management.
Balancing work, school, and family takes organization.   Creating a flexible schedule would be a start.   After work have a set block of time for school and family.   Communicate with family and friends about what times are designated for free time.   Learn to say “NO”, until the assignments or tasks are finished.   Always keep in mind what could happen if assignments, or events were to be put on hold because the word NO wasn’t used.   When studying or doing homework pick a quiet area with no distractions and make sure the area being used is free of clutter.   Remember to take breaks, by not taking breaks things could occur like; becoming tired, possibly becoming irritated if things aren’t going right, or just burnt out.   To avoid from becoming burnt out take breaks, and rest.   Once organization is established...

Leadership Paper

What it takes to be a leader.   I believe being a leader is more than just heading a workout or being the head of a group.   A leader is someone who stands out from the rest of the pack and makes it his goal to be the very best.

I have lots of experience being a leader; I was the captain of my high school wrestling team for three years, I was my youth group’s leader at church, and everything I participate in a try to lead.   I believe I was picked my sophomore year to be team captain because not only of my wrestling skill, but because I was always first on the mat, last off, and I did every single thing in my power to better myself and my team.

I believe a leader should be someone who is very outgoing. A leader should be outgoing because no one wants to follow someone who just sits there and doesn’t try to interact with people in his group.   One example is our President, as much as I hate to admit it, I bet most people voted for him because he had great people skills and was always willing to go out and talk with people.

Another characteristic a leader should have is drive.   A leader should go after whatever he wants and strive after that goal and obsess over it until he gets it and as soon as he gets his goal he should never be satisfied and should have a larger drive to go after bigger and better things and accomplish everything humanly possible in his field and that is when he should be satisfied.

In wrestling a leader is the guy who is never backing down, never giving up, fighting like hell to succeed, out working everyone in the room, and does every little thing to make sure everyone else on the team is working just as hard as him.

One example of a leader in wrestling is Brent Metcalf.   I watched a video on Iowa and listened to coach interviews and they said Metcalf was always on his grind, always pushing to be the best, and was never satisfied.   Coach Brands said if he got beat even in one sprint he would go after the person...

Reseach Paper

College of Foreign Languages, Hue University

Abstract. Giving feedback is an integral part of teachers' efforts to enhance students’ learning. In the public arena, providing thoughtful feedback not only helps students reflect on their performance but also significantly influences their communication skills in the long term. Attempting to delve into a still-new type of feedback in Vietnamese classrooms, namely videotaped feedback, this article aims to (1) review the literature on the impacts of videotaped feedback technique in public speaking classrooms and (2) have a look at videotaped feedback as a process and its potential application to Vietnamese public speaking context. Results of the review indicate that the answer to the first question was affirmative, and with its variety of uses in public speaking classrooms, videotaped feedback proves to be potential for the application to Vietnamese context.

1. Introduction Public speaking - “a way of making your ideas public” as implied in its name (Lucas, 2004, p. 4) - has been widely employed by several people all over the world with a view to influencing others with their ideas. In today’s globalization age, public speaking tends to be a form of empowerment. Whether a college graduate is offered a good job, whether an employee has a bright pathway to promotion in his/her profession, there is no denial that communication skills, public speaking included, are of ultimate necessity. Regarding college students, public speaking plays an important role in laying foundations for their oral presentations which not only benefit their study but also their work in the future. To train students to achieve competency in public speaking, it seems to be a must to offer effective and constructive feedback after their...

Inf 103 Critical Reflection Paper

January 28, 2013

The information age might very well go down as one of the most influential movements of the last century. The term “revolution” refers to a drastic change. In what ways is this information age so different? Is it all-good?

Computers, with their ever evolving software and networks, and the consequential Information Age have been declared both a gift and a curse to modern society. As stated in our text “ It is now common to walk around town with a computer in your pocket that is thousands of times more powerful than the room sized computer of the 1960’s”. Bowes, The New PC-Portable Computing, (2010). I think society as a whole has developed a love hate relationship with the Information Age. By this I mean that, while we love the amenities that wireless connectivity, the convenience of having a computer in the palm of your hand in the form of mobile devices, and the creation of social media sites provide, we have become increasingly reliant on them. Not to mention the loss of privacy. To me, that is the “revolution” of this age. This age is different in the fact that these technologies have, in a sense, corrupted human conversation and interaction. On the other side of the coin, more information is being disseminated faster and better than ever. This access to such information affords many the opportunities to become skillful enough to translate information into knowledge, which in turn, will allow people to stay abreast and better protect themselves from this perpetually changing world.

Social networks allow people to connect for a variety of reasons in a digital environment.  You might join LinkedIn to meet business contacts, MySpace to find a band member, or Facebook to see pictures of old friends and meet new ones. Whatever environment you decide to be a part of, posting information about you has become an issue of concern. What are those concerns? I mean what is the...

Strategic Initiative Paper
Lowes is a home improvement retailer that is looking to implement new technology that will give its customers more convenience and better customer service. The way that Lowes will be able to expand and implement this idea is through planning. The two planning methods that we are discussing are strategic planning and financial planning. Strategic and financial planning are two forms of planning that have different objectives, but are similar in some ways in regards to a long-term plan that will take the appropriate actions in order to achieve the company’s goal.
Strategic planning in a business is use in a business plan to make projections and defining the businesses goals and ideas. It is how a company plans to make its money for the future by also address the business strength and weaknesses. Within the company’s strategic plans key components to understand about the firm are their vision, mission, values and strategies. “Strategic planning serves as a guide to the preparation of a long and or short term financial plans” (Titman, Keown, & Martin, 2011, p. 564). A short term financial plan can consist of one year or less with lots of detailed information of the firm’s expected money. The financial planning process includes working out operating expenses and limiting the business’s exposure to unexpected business risks. A long term financial plan will consist of three to five years and will have projected amounts of the company’s income for each of the years.
The relationship between strategic and financial planning in a business means that the business needs to understand that both strategic and financial planning work together. Strategic planning has to take into consideration the available funds and the practicality of the company’s projects (Cantoria, 2011). Financial planning is meant to help put the strategic planning into action. The strategic planning holds all the...

Hrm531-Job Description Paper

TO: John Smith, Chief Financial Officer
FROM: Carol Marotti, Business Intelligence Manager
DATE: May 11, 2013
SUBJECT: Business Intelligence (“BI”) Analyst Position

At the end of 2012, my budget was approved to hire a BI Analyst.   Unfortunately, we had a budget freeze at the beginning of this year and stopped recruiting.   This memo describes the operational gap and provide details of the requirements for the new position and how adding this new position will align us with our strategy to grow through Mergers and Acquisitions and increase Operational Efficiency.

My team is responsible for producing operational reporting for the departments in the organization as well as execute projects to deliver strategic reporting to the executive team.   The operational reporting work is non-capitalized expense, however, the project work is capitalized and focused on delivering high-value analytics to the executive team.   The resources on my team are highly skilled and their salaries exceed the average analyst.   My resource strategy is to maximize the time committed to project work and minimize time on operational reporting.   After successful delivery of the first strategic reporting solution, the team started receiving a large number of requests for operational reports on the new system.   The increase in expense only work is driving up our expense ratio.   This presents us with two options:

  1. Deny the report requests.
2. Divert expensive resources from project work,
3. Hiring short-term contractors to perform the work, or
4. Open a position for a lower cost, less experienced report developer.

I do not anticipate a reduction in demand for new reports.   With each project delivery, the business will have a greater demand to streamline their current processes, leading to increased demand for analysis and reporting work.   Denying the requests will create increased frustration and negatively affect adoption of the new system.   The current approach of...

KODAK’S DEFENSE

My client Kodak has not been able to capture more than 7-10% of the Japanese Market because of the unfair trade practices and biased distribution structure. Essentially Kodak has purposely not been allowed to penetrate the Japanese market above a certain limit due to structural impediments, government interference and backdoor unfair trade practices that favor FUJI. To bolster my stand I would like to present the following arguments.
The distribution system in Japan is highly questionable .Kodak’s products were available in only 15% of the store. This was not due to insufficient investment .Kodak invested 750 million in the infrastructure and marketing and despite of that their market share remained below 10%. Kodak is a well-recognized brand and has enjoyed a market share of over 40% in the rest of world except Japan. This inconsistent distribution is beyond the normal market conditions.
Japan has more retail establishment than any other country. The retail system layered and the major distribution relied on the wholesalers .So a big way to penetrate the market was through these wholesalers. My opponents would say that there are other ways to enter the market like pricing , aggressive advertising and better sales organization .And this is exactly what Kodak thought when they invested 750 million ,however by 1990’s they realized that their efforts are not getting paid off well .They realized that the penetrating strategies are closely tied to the distribution centers.
* Pricing: According to the study by US Trade Commission on Japan’s distribution system, the distribution system did restrict the access to distribution channels to foreign entrants to protect its own firms and encouraged oligopolistic practices. In addition, Fuji was a shareholder of some wholesalers and controlled the wholesalers by including rebates throughout the distribution chain and the security deposits of wholesalers. Because of the heavy rebates, no retailer...
