One World Essay Embryonic Stem Cell

62

They are cells that can be found in the embryo or youngest developing cells. These stem cells are obtained from eggs that have been fertilized in the lab and were never in a human body. These stem cells are used for research by scientists trying to find a cure for various diseases. They are not taken from eggs fertilized in a woman's body.

After endless research and sweat and time, the scientists discovered many interesting facts about embryonic stem cells. They can be used to cure diseases, make bold people grow hair or even grow organs like kidneys and livers for those in need. The first advantage of embryonic stem cells is they can grow easily into all cell types of the human body because they are pluripotent. Which means, they can be used to grow tissues, blood, nerve or other cells in the human body. It can be used to research further more about the human body's cell. For example, drug and medical testing, treatments for diseases, and advances the research of cancer, spinal cord injuries, diabetes. Since it does not require any human or animal testing, hence saving the lives of both. According to PETA, more than 70 million animals are killed, blinded or otherwise injured by medical testing each year. With the research of embryonic, there wouldn't be any need to kill any animals anymore. Embryonic stem cells not only are very safe, they definitely are having a lot of potential for medication, treatments for many diseases also.

The first disadvantage of the Embryonic stem cells is they are difficult to control and it may take many trials, experiments and attempts before scientists are able to derive the desired cell line from them. Since Embryonic Stem cells are still in the process of researching, and understanding, there is a possibility that these cells can trigger cancer or tumor formation. Another minor disadvantage is by using embryonic stem cells, the injected person requires a lifelong use of drugs to prevent rejection of the tissues. Moreover,...
