Assessment
Beginner Level – Listening
Instruction:
Listen to an audiotape of an English man pronouncing words slowly syllable by syllable.   Listen to the words several times then try to repeat the words the English man is saying.   When you think you can repeat the words exactly like the man on the audiotape, raise your hand so the teacher will know you are ready to say the words out loud without the audiotape.   Once the teacher has acknowledged you, come to the teacher’s desk and say them for him.   Once the teacher has given you the ok to return to your seat, write the words the best way you think they are spelled and put your work in the classroom assessment box.

Intermediate Level – Flash cards
Instruction:
There are 30 flash cards in each deck.   Fifteen of those flash cards are words with the long “a” sound.   The other 15 flash cards are words with the short “a” sound.
Task:
Decide which flash cards have the long “a” sounding word and which ones have the short “a” sounding words.   Be able to sound them out correctly and then write them out in your native language and in the English language.   When you are finished deciding which words are the short “a” sound and which ones are the long “a” sound, write them on a piece of paper clarifying which words are which.   Turn the paper in at the end of class and at the end of the week there will be a contest to see who can remember the words and sound them out correctly.   A prize will be given to the top three winners.

Advanced Level – Reflection Dialogue Journal
Instruction:
Create a journal to write in every time you learn something new and interesting.   For instance, write about a new word or a new definition of a word or a new spelling of a word.   Something new you have learned about one of your classmates or a new experience that happen within the school.   At the end of each month, you will read...
